FAQ

What’s the job scene like at the moment? Are there lots of yacht crew jobs out there?

If you lined-up the yachts end-to-end there are approximately 23-km of “new builds” in shipyards that will need professional crew to man them once launched. And there are already thousands of yachts in existence with older crew retiring and younger crew taking their places. These days Captains and Owners are seeking a higher calibre of crew for their yachts. Those with professional training under their belts will distinguish themselves from ‘the rest’. Additionally those with something extra to offer in terms of life experience and other skills, for example massage therapy, nursing/medical experience, trades, sports instructing, cooking, childcare, musical ability, hairdressing, beauticians, will certainly be in higher demand due to their wider skill base.
Those wishing to work on Superyachts must be prepared to travel to Europe (France, Italy or Spain generally) or the USA (Florida) and do whatever it takes to get a job, ie. walk the docks calling on yachts to offer their CV, day-working, registering with crew recruitment agencies, networking in the social haunts and crew houses etc. The yachting scene in Australia is steadily growing any many find work locally, however it is a much bigger industry abroad and for many the lure is the worldwide travel and big USD or Euro income that can be made.

Do I really need to do a Steward/ess training course if I have previous hospitality experience?

Working on a Superyacht is unlike any other workplace. It's very unique and you need to know those points of difference and hear direct from experienced Superyacht crew all about what life onboard is really like and how it differs from hospitality work that you may have previously done. The pointers given by experienced professional Superyacht crew make the world of difference in helping to elevate both your confidence, and competence, to make that important career change. Also due to the competition for good positions in yachting, those with Superyacht-specific training (and industry references) certainly have the advantage over those without. Our help with your preparation to aproach the Superyacht industry means that you'll have the advantage over others seeking to enter the industry.
This is what some recent students have had to say: "Even though I'd worked for some years in restaurants and bars I was awed by the prospect of entering the 'superyacht' scene. But with the great training I received from Australian Superyacht Crew Recruitment & Training, and Donna's guidance and assistance before, during and after the course, I feel confident and totally prepared for a Stewardess role". Caroline (restaurant manager). "All my thanks goes to Donna (ASCR&T) for the excellent Stewardess training. It really shows when someone is so obviously experienced in their field and passionate about the industry. I can highly recommend anyone wishing to enter the industry to avail themselves of the fund of relevant information and practical clues that this training will give you in preparation to work on Superyachts internationally." Marlene (Hosp. Management Grad.) "My thanks to Donna (ASCR&T) for delivering an awesome Stew. course where time passed effortlessly. Her attention to detail was awesome, interesting and she shared her wealth of information with joy. I feel assured that my new skills as a Superyacht Stewardess are of the highest quality." Renata (Beauty Therapist/Masseuse) "I want to say a really big 'Thank-you' for the (2-day Service) course. I have definitely taken a lot from it that I hadn’t previously learnt and it was good to have various other things confirmed. So now I can confidently perform a service knowing what I am doing is right. I had such a great time during the course and I would recommend it for both entry level and experienced Stew's. I think regardless of what people think they know, they will definitely benefit from doing the courses you provide." Tamara, 2nd Stewardess, on a 46-metre motor yacht.
