Here are 5 useful tips for professional presentation of your "yachting" CV:
Did you know that yachting CVs are a 2-page maximum?
(No one has time to read more! And you should be able to summarise your details, quals and experience within this space).
Make sure your photo represents you well!
(No mug-shots, scowls, fearful expressions, sunglasses, blurry/poor-quality images....! If you are a woman, tie your hair back: look like a worker not a glamour-puss. If you are a guy, cut your hair neatly. For both: natural smile, neutral or ‘marine’ background is helpful. Digital photography is FREE – so don’t be stingy or lazy: spend the time to get the exact right shot that gives you the advantage!!)
Always use POSITIVE LANGUAGE to describe yourself.
(Remember: your CV is really a ‘selling document’ and should promote you, not apologise for shortcomings……)
Don’t forget to include an OBJECTIVE paragraph.
(You need to tell the captain/owner what position you are looking for AND what you can bring to the role - positives remember!)
Last, but not least:
Make sure that ALL your details and contact information are ACCURATE and up-to-date.
(You need to be found quickly, and the captain/owner would also like to know where you are currently located, as this may factor into their decision about whether to contact you! Make sure that you include details of your passport/nationality, the country (telephone) code for your phone contact and an email address that sounds professional.... Make sure also that you monitor that email address daily.)
Hope this helps.
